James Kenneth Hood

1927-2018

James Kenneth Hood
After a long, strong life, Kenneth died peacefully. He was happy, smiling, and enjoying each and every conversation he had right up to the end. Kenneth grew up as a third-generation farmer at the old farm in Kirkwall-Valens. He was predeceased by his loving wife Marion Elizabeth (1998), father Stanley, mother Mae, his sister Florence Watt (2011) and is survived by his dear brother Arnold Hood (Gladys) of Dundas, Ontario.

Father of seven children, Vera Vredeveld (Harry), Dianne (Bill Ferguson), Donald, Meredith Sealey (Bruce), Bonnie, Dorene Collins (Tom), Florence Walker (Todd). Dad will be missed enormously for he was with us as often as possible in body, mind, soul and prayer.

His grandchildren will miss his consistent love and genuine interest in each of their youthful life journeys. Harmon Vredeveld (Kristin), Albert Vredeveld (Suzanne), Nolan Hood (Danielle), Meredith Hood, Becky Hood, Thomas Priest (Lisa), Tim Priest (Roxanne), Carlie Walker (Albert), Jenna, Stuart, Georgia and Virginia Walker. Two great-grandchildren are expected to join the clan in March of 2019.

He was always appreciative of his neighbours, his church and choir family for their constant help, support and enjoyment of life.

He missed his wife, Marion, so very much when she died in 1998, but kept strong for YEE HAW Adventure Farm and the chores he loved doing there. He always said, all he ever wanted was to get up and help someone with anything they needed.

He farmed all his life. He drove a rural school bus for over 40 years (without an accident). He was a township/municipal councilor for Beverly/Flamborough for 24 years. He loved serving others both in the private and public sectors.

Thanks to Queen's Square Terrace for the last seven and a half years for their very kind support and great care. Thanks to Hilltop Manor for the last month, your compassion and understanding was appreciated.

The family invites you to join them for a Celebration of Ken’s life on Saturday, November 17, 2018 at 1p.m. at Kirkwall Presbyterian Church, 1545 Kirkwall Road, Flamborough. Reception to follow.
