Alexandrina was born on December 26, 1925 in Santa Maria, Azores to Raulino José de Sousa and Maria Andrade Melo. At the age of eight Alexandrina lost her father and her world would change. Life during the depression of the 1930s was difficult. Without a father, she and her siblings had no choice but to grow up quickly in order to help the family. Alexandrina would later follow her siblings and move to Canada and in 1970 settled in Cambridge with her brother and sister-in-law, José and Helena Sousa.
Alexandrina loved to travel and was able to experience much of Europe and the Holy Land. The only thing she liked more was doting on Karen, Aaron, Justin and Kevin, her grandniece and grandnephews.
Alexandrina was preceded in death by her father Raulino and her mother, Maria. She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Maria S. Melo of Lisbon, Filomena deMelo (António) of Toronto, Rosa Loura (Mario) of Hudson Massachusetts, and her brothers, José M. Sousa (Helena) of Cambridge, António S. Melo (Maria Dora) of Santa Maria and Manuel M. Sousa (Rosa) of Mississauga. She is survived by her sister Virgínia Cabral (Clemente) of Mississauga, several cousins, nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
Private funeral services were held on Saturday, May 16, 2020. A memorial mass will be announced and held at a later date. In these difficult times the family would appreciate a card, a phone call or an online condolence on Corbett Funeral Home website. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society at www.cancer.ca or the charity of your choice.
