Evangelina Aguiar

1940-2020

Evangelina Aguiar

It is with unimaginable sadness but incredible gratitude for her presence in the lives of her family and friends that we announce the passing of Evangelina Feliciana Barbosa Aguiar at the age of 80. Evangelina was hospitalized early November with a spinal hematoma. While healing in hospital after two successful spinal surgeries she contracted COVID-19.

She left us peacefully the morning of Thursday December 31, 2020 with grace and strength. Evangelina was comforted by her youngest daughter Paula and surrounded by the love of the rest of her family virtually. She was an amazing human being, a dedicated servant of her church and a tireless advocate for her community.

Forever to be missed by her husband of 53 years Jose Aguiar.

Cherished mother to Emanuel (Manny) Aguiar (Judy), Delia Aguiar (Bruce), Nelson Aguiar (Lyn) & Paula Bijowski (Donny) and proud Avo to grandchildren Laura, Melanie, Anthony, Massimo, Vayda, Myla and Nevaeh.

Dear sister of Alda Aguiar of Ginetes & brothers Jose Barbosa of Candelaria, Roberto Barbosa of Cambridge (Conceicao), Louis Barbosa of Candelaria (Louisa) & Armando Barbosa of Toronto (Conceicao). Predeceased by her parents Feliciana and Francisco Barbosa as well as brother-in-law Joao Guillermo Aguiar & sister-in-law Maria Jose Barbosa.

Evangelina had a long and ever-appreciated volunteer career spanning over 30 years. She has helped to celebrate the lives of hundreds of people. She served the community of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Cambridge as a Eucharistic Minister. She took time to administer services to parishioners both at home and in hospital. She was devoted to her church family, giving freely of her time to assist in traditional Catholic services, funerals in particular. Evangelina found joy in serving God through her community.

It is with great sadness that the family will not be able to hold a public funeral in memory of Evangelina due to the provincial shutdown and COVID-19 restrictions. At this time the family is still thoughtfully deciding how to celebrate Evangelina’s life with all those who will want to honour her memory.

As a two-time cancer survivor, in lieu of flowers, donations to Cambridge Memorial Hospital Cancer Centre would be appreciated in her honor. The family would like to thank the staff at Hamilton General Hospital and Cambridge Memorial Hospital for the care they provided Evangelina.  A special thank you to the staff of Corbett Funeral Home for their incredible compassion and respect for Evangelina.  We would especially like to thank them for going over and above to make sure we can properly say good bye to our mom and wife while keeping everyone safe.

Deus que la tenha no seu santo reino
Descansa em paz nosso amor.
