With profound sadness we announce Carol Long (Hammond) peacefully went home on December 31, 2020 after a long brave fight with Alzheimer’s. She was a loving devoted mom, nana, sister, and friend to all whose lives she touched.
She was born on Bell Island, Newfoundland on September 8, 1941 to the late Harry and Gertrude Hammond. In 1962 she moved to Ontario where she met her greatest supporter and husband Gord Long. They eventually settled in Cambridge, Ontario where they celebrated 49 years of marriage together.
Carol leaves behind her daughter Cindy Shody (Chad), and her grandchildren who were the lights of her life, Laura and Aidan. She will be missed by her loving sister Ellen Pecoraro, and many nieces and nephews. She has been welcomed home by her late sisters and brother, Brenda (Fred) Noseworthy, Eric Hammond, Joan Noseworthy, Lucy Hammond, Evelyn (Cliff) Little.
During her employment at Rockwell Automation until her retirement in 2003 she made many dear friends. She started her 18 years in the coil department and finished at Raglin where she had many fun times.
She found so much joy in coffee visits with her life long friends, girls weekends away, and gifting her crafts from ceramic Christmas trees to the beautiful sweaters she would knit. Along with the countless Newfy dinners she made that brought everyone to the table, and her favourite was a game of bingo with her sisters Brenda and Ellen.
Most of all she loved her family. Her strength, support, and sense of humour will be greatly missed, but we have gained a guardian angel.
A celebration life will be held later in future due to Covid-19 restrictions.
Expressions of sympathy can be made to the Alzheimer’s Society.
