Our Story
From the moment it first opened its doors more than 35 years ago, Corbett Funeral Home, in Cambridge Ontario has been guided by a simple principle: “We Care”. To this day, we proudly continue to pursue that same ideal. We believe it is the key to Corbett’s reputation for community focus and a commitment to the highest standards of compassionate and professional service.
Corbett’s history dates back to February 15, 1987 when our namesake Vic Corbett and his partner Richard Makcrow launched the firm but our legacy really extends to Mr. Corbett’s long and distinguished career. A lifelong Galt resident, Vic Corbett served that community as a funeral director for 28 years before bringing both his name and his extensive experience to his own business. With the new firm established, Vic Corbett retired in 1993 and Richard Makcrow took on the role of managing director. Mr. Makcrow would guide the firm until his retirement in 2006.
Early in their tenure, Corbett and Makcrow would hire a young funeral director named Steve Parker who would become a mainstay of the firm and who after 18 years of service would be the obvious choice to take up the torch following the departure of the founders. For Steve Parker a personal dream was realized on January 31 of 2006 when he assumed ownership of Corbett Funeral Home.
Now more than 35 years into his career at Corbett’s, Steve has put his own mark on the business, establishing a relationship with his community grounded in trust and reliability. He has built a respected team of professionals, modernized the business, and, on July 30, 2015, expanded the firm with the acquisition of the Lounsbury Funeral Home in Hespeler, Cambridge.
With pride in their legacy of service and local ownership, Steve and his team continue to offer the families of Cambridge a full range of services from the most traditional to the unique and highly personalized. With two locations providing dignified and comfortable surroundings to accommodate the varied needs of those who turn to them at difficult times. Corbett Funeral Home is proud to be a locally-owned independent Canadian business and a trusted member of the communities they serve.
