Pre-Arrangement Process

Funeral Pre-Arrangement Process

Taking care of all the all the details in advance can mean peace-of-mind for you and comfort and security for your family.

The Basics of Planning

Making funeral plans is a process. When arrangements are made at a time of loss, the process is typically guided by the funeral director but when planning in advance - with time on your side - we recommend you consider these steps:
  • Establish your objectives - what kind of funeral or memorial do you want and what will be meaningful and comforting to those who will need the support.
  • Consider resources - the availability of time, money, facilities and people may all affect your plans.
  • Evaluate your options - there are a vast number of choices with regard to settings, services, other events, participants, merchandise and more. A funeral professional can help you sort through all the many ways you may choose to address your unique needs.
  • Determine what you think is right for you and your family.
  • Get a second opinion - it never hurts to invite a family member or friend to join the conversation. It's your funeral (literally this time) but a fresh perspective may help you.
  • Once you've made your decisions, document them in all the detail you may want to include. We provide a tool to help you start on our own or you can call on a specially trained professional preplanning counsellor to help.
  • Share your plan - If you've gotten this far on your own, send your plan to the funeral home and share a copy with a family member or friend, ideally your executor or another individual who will be responsible for overseeing the implementation of your wishes.
We offer you two ways to begin your funeral pre-arrangement plan:

Using the online Begin Planning Tool

This website features Begin Planning Online, a step-by-step interactive form that can be used to record your end-of-life plans and send the completed form to our staff for safekeeping or with a request for further information and guidance.

Turn to the professionals
